I did this little oil copy of Frazetta’s Cave Demon (1978) on greenish-gray charcoal paper in one sitting from sketch to finish in 2013 (10 inches x 13 inches). The blacks are built up from layering winsor and newton’s alizarin crimson and ultramarine blue.
I can not praise the work of Frazetta enough. His composition, color, form, figure, and amazing illustration were all masterful. If I were forced to recommend a student to study one, and only old master, it would be the new one named Frazetta.
